How it works

We capture who has it. We hash it. You look it up.

Every night we record which Australian suppliers list a part, and whether it is in stock. Later, you can ask what was available on any captured date and get a record you can cite.

The process / from nightly capture to proof

The process

  1. Nightly capture

Each night we capture supplier availability for collision parts across Australian suppliers. Price is recorded alongside, in the same snapshot.

  2. Time-stamped and hashed

Every snapshot is time-stamped and hashed when it is captured. The hashes form a tamper-evident trail: if a stored record changed later, the check would fail.

  3. Look up an as-of date

Search by part number or description, or scan a whole quote, and set the "as at" date. That is usually the quote date. You see the snapshots from that date, not today's stock.

  4. Get the evidence

The answer comes back as a Part Evidence record: which suppliers had it, which didn't, the capture time and an Evidence ID. Attach it to the claim file as a PDF.

  5. Coming early 2027: price evidence

The same snapshots also hold price. Price evidence is the next layer, coming early 2027.

As-of-date proof / the question we answer

Was this part available on the quote date, and where?

Stock moves every day. A quote written on the 18th says a part was unavailable or backordered; by the time the claim is reviewed, stock has changed. Today's stock can't answer that question.

PartsRate answers it from the record. Pick the quote date and you see the snapshot from that night for each supplier, with the date marked and any gaps shown.

Evidence and method / how a record is read

Four states. Shape first, then label, then colour.

In stock

The supplier showed the part as available in that night's snapshot.

Limited / backorder

Shown with low stock, or available on backorder.

Out of stock

Captured, and shown as not available.

Not captured

No snapshot for that supplier that night. A gap, never treated as "out".

DRAFT, TBC
Exact definitions of each status, as captured from suppliers, are being confirmed and will be published here before launch.

What we say, and what we don't.

  • Tamper-evident, not tamper-proofHashing shows whether a stored record has changed. It is evidence, not a legal guarantee.
  • Gaps are shownMissing snapshots appear as hatched cells. We never fill them in or smooth them over.
  • Coverage changes over timeSuppliers covered can change. Each record shows which suppliers were captured on that date.
  • Dates and times carry a zoneCapture times are shown in AEST or AEDT. Evidence and API use ISO dates, for example 2026-09-18.
